voice vote
robert s rules of order newly revised (ronr) states voice vote (viva voce) usual method of voting on motion not require more majority vote adoption. considered simplest , quickest of voting methods used deliberative assemblies. presiding officer or chair of assembly put question assembly, asking first in favor of motion indicate verbally ( aye or yes ), , ask opposed motion indicate verbally ( no ). chair estimate side had more members.
rising vote
a simple rising vote (in number of members voting on each side stand, or rise ) used principally in cases in chair believes voice vote has been taken inconclusive result, or upon motion divide assembly. rising vote normal method of voting on motions requiring two-thirds vote adoption. can used first method of voting when majority vote required if chair believes in advance voice vote inconclusive. chair can order rising vote counted.
show of hands
a show of hands alternate voice voting , can used basic voting method in small boards or committees, , used in other informal or small gatherings voting. more precise voice vote not require members leave seats. however, not count division of assembly, , not effective rising vote in causing maximum number of members vote have not done so.
