in 1990, archaeological survey of india (asi) discovered miniature shrine bhuvaraha image in type enclosure. dated pallava king narasimhavarman mamalla’s (ad 638–660) reign. enclosed elliptical built during rajasimha’s (ad 700–728) period. these carved on bedrock has reclining vishnu in shore temple complex. miniature shrine dedicated shiva. has sixteen-sided base carved bedrock. circular wall , superstructure of structural type. there lions depicted on pilasters. reported unique single tiered temple , not seen in other temples of pallava period. circular shikara, in vesara style architecture. shikhara erected on circular griva, has kudus , maha-nasikas on 4 sides , each nasika has image of ganesha. kalasa above shikara missing. carving of bhuvaraha depicts varaha boar incarnation of vishnu. image in unusual form, unlike varaha depictions in other regions of country, there no bhudevi shown nor ocean. depiction in form of varaha performing diving act ocean rescue bhudevi or mother earth. symbolism of act denotes myth, when temple submerged in water, below ground level. sculpture seen broken , base has inscription referring titles of pallava king rajasimha. wall surrounds shrine prevent intrusion of sand sea has inscription on topmost layer, in pallava-grantha script, equates king arjuna.
