there hundreds of students organizations including 26 religious organizations.


student media

the daily mississippian (dm) student-published newspaper of university, established in 1911. although located on ole miss campus, operated largely independent newspaper run students. dm college newspaper in state published 5 times week. staff consists of approximately 15 editors, plus 25 writers , photographers, , five-person student sales staff. daily circulation 12,000. award-winning publication celebrated 100th anniversary in 2011–12.

the ole miss student yearbook 368-page full-color book produced students. has won many awards, including gold crown.
wums-fm 92.1 rebel radio, fcc commercially licensed radio station. 1 of few student-run, commercially licensed radio stations in nation, signal stretching 60 miles across north mississippi. format features top 40, alternative , college rock, news , talk shows.

student housing

approximately 5,300 students live on campus in 11 residence halls, 2 residential colleges , 3 apartment complexes. freshmen (students less 30 credit hours) required live in campus housing first year unless meet commuter guidelines. department of student housing auxiliary, meaning self-supporting , not receive appropriations state funds. rent received students pays housing functions such utilities, staff salaries, furniture, supplies, repairs, renovations , new buildings. of residence staff members students, including day-to-day management, conduct board members , maintenance personnel. upon acceptance university of mississippi, housing application submitted application fee. cost of on-campus housing ranges approximately $4,000 more $8,000 (the highest price being of newly renovated village apartments) per academic or calendar year, depending on occupancy , room type. students (with more 30 credit hours) have option live off campus in unaffiliated housing.



graduate students, undergraduate students aged 25 or older, students married, , students families may live in village apartments. complex consists of 6 2 story buildings, , adjacent university of mississippi law school. undergraduates on 25, married students, , graduate students may live in 1 bedroom apartments. graduate students , students on 25 may live in studio style apartments. students children may live in 2 bedroom apartments. children living in village apartments zoned oxford school district. residents zoned bramlett elementary school (prek-1), oxford elementary school (2-3), della davidson elementary school (4-5), oxford middle school (6-8), , oxford high school (9-12).


greek life

despite relatively small number of greek-letter organizations on campus, third of undergraduates participate in greek life @ ole miss. tradition of greek life on oxford campus deep-seated one. in fact, first fraternity founded in south rainbow fraternity, founded @ ole miss in 1848. fraternity merged delta tau delta in 1886. delta kappa epsilon followed shortly after @ ole miss in 1850, first have house on campus in mississippi. delta gamma women s fraternity founded in 1873 @ lewis school girls in nearby oxford. greek life @ ole miss suspended 1912 1926 due statewide anti-fraternity legislation.


today, sorority chapters large, boasting on 400 active members. recruitment fiercely competitive , potential sorority members encouraged secure personal recommendations ole miss sorority alumnae increase chances of receiving invitation join 1 of eleven npc sororities on campus. fraternity recruitment fierce 14 active ifc chapters on campus.



associated student body

the associated student body (asb) ole miss student government organization. student body, excluding medical center, includes 16,060 undergraduates, 1,992 graduate students, 520 law students , 223 students in doctor of pharmacy program. african-americans comprise 16.5 percent of student body.
