during second world war, regiment part of 6th cavalry brigade, 1st cavalry division , remained mounted until 1942, seeing action in palestine, syria , lebanon. 1 of last regiments of british army fight on horseback, cheshire yeomanry found particularly painful lose mounts , re-role signals regiment, when title changed in 1942 5th line of communications signals regiment. after leaving middle east, regiment redesignated 17th line of communication signals regiment (cheshire yeomanry) service in north-west europe.
