bojović born on 16 july 1858 in miševići, nova varoš. had distant ancestry vasojevići.
he fought in serbian-ottoman wars 1876 1878 cadet of artillery school, in wars serbia waged @ beginning of 20th century. chief of general staff first time 1905 1908.
balkan wars
in balkan wars, chief of staff of 1st army, scored huge success in battles of kumanovo, bitola (first balkan war) , bregalnica (second balkan war). took part in peace negotiations turkey, held in london in 1913, military expert in serbian government delegation.
world war i
at start of world war i, given command of 1st army. army suffered huge losses @ battle of drina in 1914, managed stop austro-hungarian offensive. bojović wounded in battle, , replaced @ army general position Živojin mišić. in january 1916, appointed chief of general staff second time in place of ailing vojvoda radomir putnik, carried soldiers city of skadar. held position until june 1918, when resigned because of disputes allied generals on issue of widening thessaloniki front. returned position commander of 1st army, broke enemy lines , advanced deep occupied territory. received title of field marshal on 26 september [o.s. 13 september] 1918 contribution during war.
post-war , last years
in 1921, appointed chief of general staff of yugoslav army, , in 1922 withdrew active service.
at beginning of world war ii, petar bojovic appointed deputy commander-in-chief of yugoslavian armed forces young king petar ii karađorđević. however, because of old age, did not participate in events followed.
