early history
the estate of lostock s hall in rural area of cuerden green built james de lostock. grounds surrounded lostock s hall got renamed lostock hall, after death of james daughter magote.
in 1662 andrew dandy paid rent of 12d lord of clitheroe lands called lostock, , in 1666 william dandy paid tax upon 3 hearths here. died in 1676. andrew dandy , william, son, out-burgesses @ preston guild in 1682. day, small section of river lostock, known locals dandy brook , in honour of dandys.
lostock s hall destroyed fire. of main brick work not affected fire reused in 1764, form structure of new building on original site, part of regeneration project william clayton esq. william s son, george clayton inherited hall following death of william clayton. george went on living in hall many years wife dolly, until died in 1829, @ age of 86. george s second son, william became new inheritor of property, until relocated south of england in late 1840s. trend of inheriting hall continued many years through such owners robert orrell esq. (cotton spinner , manufacturer, cuerden mills) 1847-61; john bashall esq. (cotton manufacturer, lostock hall), 1861–71 , robert jackson 1871-81.
modern history
the trend of inheriting hall ceased, when founders of cotton thread works, purchased property in 1880s harry dewhurt; remained living there until 1918, when relocated cheshire after world war , gave hall , 6 ½ acres of grounds, preston royal infirmary used continuation hospital. alteration work began, , june 1922, lostock hall continuation hospital formally opened doors women , children, continuing until 1982, when lancashire area health authority ceased exist, , forced hospital closed down.
during final months of hospital s existence, group of trustees had established st. catherine s hospice (lancashire) limited, in lancashire area, , looking building serve hospice base people in preston, chorley, , south ribble boroughs. lands , building of lostock hall continuation hospital purchased, positioned geographically central 3 boroughs. building renovated, , first service @ hospice started in 1984. first day care service took place on 29 april 1985.
ward street bombings
lostock hall fell victim bomb attacks during second world war. serious of these attacks effect village when leyland motors factory in leyland came under attack single bomber on 27 october 1940. although fire army gunners drove bomber target, 3 bombs dropped in vicinity. many terraced homes destroyed , 27 people died. after war dance-hall built on site, subsequently used industrially bacup shoe factory. after shoe factory s closure in 1982, calvary christian fellowship bought , developed building , established centre of worship , community activity.
