History Kincorth Academy







kincorth academy s coat of arms includes several symbols, represent various historical links. towers indicate city of aberdeen , portcullis link between kincorth , arbroath abbey. prior 1527, lands on school stands, belonged abbey of arbroath.


in 1551 these lands passed hands of thomas menzies of pitfodels, provost of aberdeen. colours of menzies family red , white , 1 of branches of family has eagle in arms. significance of eagle further enhanced fact kincorth stands on easterly point of grampians, area inhabited eagle. name seann coirthe gaelic form of kincorth.


in 1971 kincorth academy opened serve kincorth area had largely developed in late 1940s , 1950s. kincorth academy six-year, co-educational, non-denominational school.


until 2005 school had 5 houses, students divided into, these were: braemar, crathes, dunnotar, glamis & stirling (all named after scottish castles). due falling school roll, crathes house retired , pupils re-distributed across remaining 4 houses.


in 2010, due restructuring within school (and across aberdeen city council schools), houses retired , organised 3 larger houses (still named after scottish castles): craigievar, edinburgh & fyvie.
