government

whitehall township operates first class township. on november 5, 1974, township adopted home rule charter (here) form of government became effective january 5, 1976.


as part of governmental arrangement, township has separate executive , legislative branches. legislative branch consists of township board of commissioners of 7 (7) members, each serving 4-year terms. 4 of seats have terms overlap remaining 3 seat terms (e.g. 4 of current terms end in 2007, while remaining 3 terms end in 2009). seated members elect president , vice president conduct board meetings.


the executive branch consists of mayor, serves 4-year term. mayor may appoint deputy mayor @ his/her discretion, approval board of commissioners. deputy mayor not automatically become mayor should standing mayor leave office reason—a replacement appointed board of commissioners.


whitehall township maintains elected treasurer serves 4-year term.
