in 1989, new york state officials ordered hotel pay new york city $2.9 million in rent had been withheld hotel in 1986 due unusual accounting changes approved donald trump. investigation new york city auditors noted hotel missing basic financial records , found hotel using procedures violated accepted accounting principles.


the trump/hyatt partnership collapsed, trump filing civil racketeering suit against hyatt owner jay pritzker on july 28, 1993, alleging hyatt had used improper accounting practices, in order force trump out of partnership hyatt, restricted chain operating other convention hotel in new york city. pritzkers countersued on march 28, 1994, alleging trump had violated partnership failing remain solvent, using share in hotel collateral bank loans, , refusing cover share of cost of necessary repairs. much-needed renovation of hotel began on april 8, 1996 , continued through august. finally, on october 7, 1996, pritzkers bought out trump s half-share in hotel $142 million, ending partnership.


the hotel won 2007 , 2008 corporate , incentive travel magazine award of excellence. renovated in 2011, @ cost of $130 million, @ point 1980s modern interiors removed. renovation made more complicated structure s 1919 origins, including 138 different guest room configurations.
