synopsis

in 2030, war erupts on mediterranean islands of altis , stratis, killing half of civilian population, rendering thousands of them homeless, , causing refugee crisis. under harsh conditions, nato peacekeeping forces deploy region secure peace , establish joint nato–altian armed forces (aaf) bases on islands.

five years later, nato investment in aegean dwindling, canton-protocol strategic alliance treaty (csat), military alliance of eastern hemisphere countries, begins subsidizing aaf , mobilizes own forces in pacific. facing political pressure withdraw @ end of peacekeeping mandate, nato begins reducing forces causing tensions rise between aaf , nato forces.

plot
prologue

a few months in 2034, before start of survive . staff sergeant adams , sergeant conway testing new virtual reality combat simulator , preparing firing range, both training aaf troops on command of nato peacekeepers, called task force aegis. after brief exercises, adams contacted patrol of aaf soldiers claiming there incident , should come on them, however, patrol doesn t have neither map nor gps, after using triangulation , basic navigation discover grid of patrol , teach local aaf soldiers how read map. conway, adams , rest of squad depart see lost patrol, shortly after leaving, small earthquake happens, surprising adams team. team arrives place lost patrol are, discovering attacked group of civilians, claiming guerillas. conway , adams irritated @ aaf patrol , tells them call medevac survivor civilian, conway discovers real guerilla cache patrol haven t found before. adams remarks fia retaliate.

one week later after incident, government of altis , fia agree peace talk in ministry of defense, on capital kavala. adam s team called task force aegis commander, colonel mackinnon, locate missing aaf security convoy coming kavala. after embarking in helicopter, team discovers missing convoy destroyed , occupants deceased, team attacked fia guerillas. after fight, team calls medevac wounded aaf soldier , recalled kavala, on way see destroyed aaf checkpoints. arriving on kavala, team discovers sitdown went haywire , fia attacked aaf, team assigned ministry of defense,in way crossing streets of kavala, find dead bodies, destruction , chaos in city. when arrive @ ministry, discover high-ranking aaf officer execute prisoners, threaten officer ordered stand down commander mackinnon, discovering officer colonel georgious akhanteros, commanding officer of aaf, conway , adams leave area. credits roll explaining after battle of kavala, relations between nato , aaf deteriorated, resulting in nato peacekeeping mandate reduced smaller island of stratis , world -and nato - forgetting situation in altis.

episode 1 – survive

by july 2035, after bloody civil war between fia , aaf, aaf have control of of 2 islands. nato has finished dismantling equipment , bases, , few infantry units , helicopter group left in stratis. nato commander called kamino firing range unknown reasons. while working on island, u.s. soldiers corporal ben kerry , staff sergeant adams sent kamino commander of nearby camp rogain. eventually, find commander dead , aaf forces attack remaining nato forces, causing command elements fall , severing communication outside world. before can rally other survivors, adams killed landmine, forcing kerry continue alone.

after arriving @ decommissioned nato camp, british special forces led captain scott miller takes command , survivors attempt number of missions on island, met limited success. miller manages contact nato medcom , arranges re-invasion of stratis. splits forces 4 squads, alpha through delta, , begins mission clear path invasion. operation appears success aaf forces retreat, goes wrong when csat forces arrive them up.

captain miller reveals operation s real goal never retake island, instead, evacuate survivors stratis. surviving nato forces escape stratis boat , make island of altis. kerry frustrated miller s deceit, miller divulges on arrival link local loyalist group called fia. suddenly, aaf attack jets arrive , capsize boats.

episode 2 – adapt

on altis, kerry wakes , finds himself in skirmish between fia , aaf-csat forces. later reunites miller , team , taken fia. given charge of guerrilla squad , numerous missions in altis. later on, learn nato invading island through main airport. fia plan assist nato attacking smaller airfield, drawing forces away main one. meanwhile, kerry s squad destroys nearby artillery position controlled csat special forces before withdrawing airfield fia had managed capture.

en route, witness nato gunships fire upon airfield , kerry informed nato forces have mistakenly engaged fia in airfield. confused, kerry approaches downed gunship, pilot of shocked hear had been firing @ friendly forces. pilot radios superior, promptly orders nato disengage attack on fia-held airfield. nato commanding officer, colonel armstrong, meets kerry , tells him unaware of fia s activities on island. when kerry asks captain miller, armstrong responds has no knowledge of scott miller , tells kerry british forces moved off stratis many months ago. confused has heard, kerry boards helicopter debriefed.

episode 3 – win

kerry meets nato commander colonel armstrong, call sign crossroads , , learns failed capture altis airport. crossroads says captain miller considered hostile until further notice, , sends kerry front line on altis. while on patrol 1 night, csat launches counter-offensive against nato positions near airport. after receiving crossroads approval, kerry links fia , leads squad. after repelling counter-offensive, nato launches assault on airport , secures right before earthquake hits island. tectonic activity increases, , nato continues assault on altis, taking capital before launching final effort wipe out aaf. crossroads again warns kerry avoid cpt. miller or of team. while nato on brink of defeating aaf, kerry contacted lt. james, 1 of miller s squad members. here, player must make decision: join nato final offensive or disobey , find lt. james.

if player chooses regroup nato, kerry scouts , marks artillery , cas supports friendly forces can move in. shortly after assault begins, aaf unconditionally surrenders. 6 weeks later, life on altis has returned normal, albeit heavy nato , private military company presence. kerry, promoted sergeant, tasked escort journalist. on way, journalist asks kerry involvement in stratis incident. hiding knows captain miller or had happened, kerry tells behavior during nato withdrawal. shortly after arriving, crossroads calls kerry base deal situation , , story ends.

if player chooses james, kerry finds him alone , wounded. before dying, james orders him find truck loaded special device , take miller. fighting through csat special forces, brings device miller. device revealed tectonic weapon responsible recent tremors, , implied miller had caused incident on stratis. revealed provided misinformation fia, , caused failure of first nato invasion attempt on altis, in effort buy time acquire device.

csat launches massive invasion , crossroads orders nato forces tactical withdrawal. miller tells kerry come him , stay put while , team take device off island. after time, kerry contacts miller, miller replies invasion impossible come him. kerry s fate left in hands of player: can either escape island boat or helicopter, or without friendly forces, or die trying.
