little known first observed tropical cyclone of 1859 season, first analyzed in 1995. during late june or july, cities along coastal mexican state of veracruz experienced formidable hurricane, , several ships in gulf of mexico lost. due lack of reports, storm s listing in atlantic hurricane database limited single point near tuxpan, veracruz, on july 1, although date chiefly chosen placeholder in lieu of definitive data. estimated sustained winds reached 105 mph (165 km/h), equivalent category 2 hurricane on modern day saffir–simpson hurricane wind scale.

the second known storm of season discovered in contemporary reanalysis. existed in northwestern atlantic in middle of august evidence of storm being reports 2 vessels in vicinity of bad weather. 1 vessel, tornado, encountered severe winds, starting on august 17, forced abandon easterly course , sail new york city. caure experienced strong winds on august 18 , august 19 barometric pressure low 982 mbar (29.0 inhg). standard wind–pressure relationship model value yields winds of 80 mph (130 km/h). wind patterns reported each ship indicate neither vessel reached storm s core, winds typically @ strongest. result, system estimated have attained @ least category 2 intensity. approximate track follows east-northeasterly trajectory.

the first of 3 hurricanes in september first of season identified prior 1995. described w. h. alexander in 1902 publication mild system passed on st. kitts , later st. croix on september 2. short track formulated storm in 1995 indicated path across northern lesser antilles on september 2; track shifted toward south inclusion within hurdat. highest sustained winds estimated have been 80 mph (130 km/h).

based on reports of strong winds ship near 40°n, 50°w, partagás documented new storm near point on september 12. previous hurricane, no track existed storm until 1995 hurdat, when more extensive observations several additional vessels utilized. @ least 4 ships sustained structural damage or took on water, , bell flower lost captain , crew member sea. severity of weather encountered ships suggested cyclone of modest hurricane intensity.

the fifth storm first mentioned david m. ludlum in 1963 having affected mobile, alabama, on september 15, no description of genesis or impacts. partagás acknowledged storm without attempting reconstruct track. result, cyclone added hurricane database single data point, placing near mobile category 1 hurricane. however, in 2003, reanalysis project expanded track september 15 through september 18, using newspaper accounts , reports both land , sea. winds of minimal hurricane strength, storm moved north-northeastward toward central gulf coast. cyclone made landfall on september 16 on alabama winds estimated @ 80 mph (130 km/h) , barometric pressure of 982 mbar (29.0 inhg). weakened tropical storm pushed inland, , traversed southeastern united states , mid-atlantic region. storm re-emerged atlantic continued towards northeast, , based on ship reports, believed have reattained hurricane intensity prior passing south of new england , canadian maritimes, before being last noted on september 18.

hurricane six

the sixth storm of season first documented edward b. garriott in 1900. after being first observed ship near jamaica on october 2, hurricane tracked northward on extreme eastern tip of cuba, according reconstructed track. heavy weather reported in baracoa. storm later reached southeastern bahamas, cyclone severely impacted inagua region on october 2 , 3, destroying @ least 25 boats. several ships underway around inagua endured rough seas , strong winds; several of crew , 2 soldiers aboard 1 vessel wrecked hurricane died. meteorological reports ships confirm hurricane continued northward, passing midway between bermuda , east coast of united states. on october 6, vessel near center of storm recorded barometric pressure of 938 mbar (27.7 inhg), signalling intense hurricane after crossed 40th parallel north. lowest pressure associated storm , used estimate maximum sustained winds peaked @ 125 mph (205 km/h). on october 6, ship near sable island encountered storm, continued approach canadian maritimes. day, storm last noted offshore nova scotia.



tropical storm seven

beginning on october 16, ships throughout central bahamas experienced squally conditions accompanied strong winds. based on reports, storm documented in 1995 west-northwestward-moving system. 1 ship ran aground on paradise island , suffered similar fate in abaco islands. continuing westward, storm made landfall near modern day boca raton, florida, winds of 70 mph (110 km/h) @ 16:00 utc on october 17. system last noted near present day arcadia following day.



hurricane eight

a low pressure area developed on bay of campeche between october 23 , october 24, tropical storm forming on latter date. @ least 4 other ships in portion of gulf of mexico sustained appreciable structural damage. 1 ship capsized in storm hands lost except 1 seaman, picked on november 2 passing vessel. survivor said stranded on wreck 5 days, indicating ship went down on october 28. stormy weather reported near bermuda. partagás , diaz used these reports create track storm. initially, storm drifted north-northeastward , northeastward. 12:00 utc on october 26, estimated system became hurricane , intensified further peak @ winds of 90 mph (150 km/h). shortly thereafter, hurricane began accelerating east-northeastward due cold front. @ 18:00 utc on october 28, storm made landfall near st. petersburg, florida. barometric pressure of 974 mbar (28.8 inhg) observed, lowest in relation storm. storm emerged in atlantic less 6 hours later , transitioned extratropical cyclone on october 29.
