he born @ sassari, in sardinia. studied law @ sassari , turin, , in 1782 made judge of consulate @ nice. in 1786-1788 published dizionario universale ragionato della giurisprudenza mercantile. in 1795 appeared systematic work on maritime law of europe, sistema universale dei principii del diritto maritimo deli europa, afterwards recast , translated french.


in 1806 appointed 1 of french commission engaged in drawing general code of commercial law, , in following year proceeded genoa president of court of appeal. azuni wrote numerous pamphlets , minor works, chiefly on maritime law, important treatise on origin , progress of maritime law (paris, 1810), , historical, geographical , political account of sardinia (1799, enlarged 1802).


after fall of napoleon in 1814, azuni lived time in retirement @ genoa, until invited sardinia victor emmanuel i, , appointed judge of consulate @ cagliari, , director of university library. died @ cagliari in 1827.
