andrea loredan, connoisseur of fine arts, commissioned palace, paid doge, leonardo loredan. in 1581, loredan family suffered financial difficulties , sold 50,000 ducats julius, duke of brunswick-lüneburg, had deep affection venice. however, duke kept 2 years before selling guglielmo gonzaga, marquis of mantua, sold vittore calergi, venetian noble heraklion on island of crete. calergi expanded building in 1614 large addition architect vincenzo scamozzi called white wing included windows overlooking garden courtyard. (the addition demolished in 1659 , rebuilt following year.) in 1739, palace inherited through marriage vendramins, powerful patrician family of merchants, bankers, religious leaders, , politicians, owned more century.


in 1844, marie-caroline de bourbon-sicile, duchess of berry, , second husband, ettore carlo lucchesi-palli, duke della grazia, purchased ca vendramin calergi last member of vendramin family line. in turmoil of risorgimento, forced sell palace caroline s grandson, henry (enrico), count de bardi, , many of fine works of art auctioned in paris. count de bardi , wife infanta adelgundes , related dukes of grazia maintained home , hosted many famous names of day. in 1937, last of grazia nobles, count lucchesi-palli, sold giuseppe volpi, count of misurata, remodeled living quarters , turned center electromagnetic , electrical phenomena.
