there 2 chronograms date mosque, both yielding year 988 in hijri (islamic) calendar (1580 in julian calendar).
one of 2 inscriptions, @ outer entrance of complex, features 4-verse poem in jali thuluth calligraphic script in ottoman turkish poet ulvî , written calligrapher demircikulu yusuf:
mîr-i bahr â’nî kılıç paşa kapudan-ı zemân
yaptı çün bu camii ola yeri darüsselâm
hâtif-i kudsî görüp ulvî dedi tarihini
ehl-i imâna ibâdetgâh olsun bu makam
the letters in final line, “may house of worship people of faith,” add number 988.
all 3 doors of courtyard ornamented. courtyard has marble fountain ablution before prayer 8 columns , dome. outer porch has sloping roof supported twelve columns on west façade , 3 on each side, rhombus-shaped capitals. in center marble portal.
at outer courtyard in graveyard stands octagonal türbe dome made mimar sinan. wooden doors inlaid mother-of-pearl. kılıç ali pasha s tomb lies inside türbe.
the medrese, opposite southeast corner of mosque, square. structure might not constructed mimar sinan not in official list of works, tazkirat-al-abniya.
to right of mosque hamam, of construction completed in 1583. glass doors lead 2 separate soğukluks (cool rooms) placed on either sides of hararet (caldarium-hot room) hexagonal in plan open bathing places in 4 of 6 arched recesses, other 2 opening soğukluks. placement of soğukluks , plan of hararet differ usual application carried out sinan in other extant hamams.

the central dome of mosque 12.70 metres (41.7 ft) in diameter, carried on pendentives on granite piers , 2 half-domes on qibla axis. towards entrance, on 2 sides, there two-story gallery. dome placed @ center 2 exedrae similar byzantine basilica, resemblance hagia sophia.
above prayer hall 5 small domes carried on 6 marble columns. tile panels placed high in prayer hall inscribed ayats (verses) quran. mosque has 1 minaret 1 gallery. there 247 windows including 24 of central dome. mihrab in square projecting apse.
a 16th-century ship lamp used hang central dome taken off displayed @ museum of ottoman , turkish naval history in 1948.
