Forms Vitamin B6
pyridoxine
pyridoxamine
several forms (vitamers) of vitamin b6 known:
pyridoxine (pn), form commonly given vitamin b6 supplement
pyridoxine 5′-phosphate (p5p)
pyridoxal (pl)
pyridoxal 5′-phosphate (plp), metabolically active form (sold p-5-p vitamin supplement)
pyridoxamine (pm)
pyridoxamine 5′-phosphate (pmp)
4-pyridoxic acid (pa), catabolite excreted in urine
pyritinol, semi-synthetic derivative of pyridoxine, 2 pyridoxine moieties bound disulfide bridge.
all forms except pyridoxic acid , pyritinol can interconverted. absorbed pyridoxamine converted pmp pyridoxal kinase, further converted plp pyridoxamine-phosphate transaminase or pyridoxine 5′-phosphate oxidase catalyzes conversion of pnp plp. pyridoxine 5′-phosphate oxidase dependent on flavin mononucleotide (fmn) cofactor produced riboflavin (vitamin b2) i.e. in biochemical pathway, dietary vitamin b6 cannot used without vitamin b2.
