at point bridge crosses Île de la cité, there stands bronze equestrian statue of king henry iv, commissioned giambologna under orders of marie de médicis, henri’s widow , regent of france, in 1614. after death, giambologna s assistant pietro tacca completed statue, erected on pedestal pietro francavilla, in 1618. destroyed in 1792 during french revolution, rebuilt in 1818, following restoration of bourbon monarchy. bronze new statue obtained bronze statue of louis charles antoine desaix, statue of napoleon in place vendôme, melted down. new statue cast mold made using surviving cast of original. inside statue, new sculptor françois-frédéric lemot put 4 boxes, containing history of life of henry iv, 17th-century parchment certifying original statue, document describing how new statue commissioned, , list of people contributed public subscription.
