in 2015, riverkeeper alerted of sewage leak in kill, noting high levels of bacteria indicating presence of fecal matter. new york state department of environmental conservation (dec) investigation found nearby private sewer pipes , manholes filled sludge; cleaned , plans have been instated ensure sewers stay clear henceforth. oil spill observed in kill in 2016 , dec staff again sent respond. dec installed booms absorb oil , began investigation spill s source, unknown of december 6.
