cultivation requirements

cannabis needs conditions flourish.

growth medium

soil required, except cannabis grown hydroponics or aeroponics

sufficient nutrients—commercial potting soils indicate n-p-k = x%-y%-z% percentages of fundamental nutritional elements, i.e., nitrogen, phosphorus , potassium. nutrients provided soil via fertilizers such practice requires caution.
ph between 5.8 , 6.5. value can adjusted – see soil ph. commercial fertilizers (even organic) tend make soil more acidic.

warmth

the optimal day temperature range cannabis 24 30 °c (75 86 °f). temperatures above 31 °c (88f) , below 15.5 °c (60f) seem decrease thc potency , slow growth. @ 13 °c (55f) plant undergoes mild shock, though strains withstand frost temporarily.

light

light can natural (outdoor growing) or artificial (indoor growing).

under artificial light, plant typically remains under regime of 16–24 hours of light , 0–8 hours of darkness germination until flowering, longer light periods being conducive vegetative growth, , longer dark periods being conducive flowering. there ongoing debate on necessity of dark period vegetative growth. has been suggested that, when subjected regimen of constant light without dark period, cannabis begins show signs of decreased photosynthetic response, lack of vigor, , overall decrease in vascular development. typically, flowering induced providing @ least 12 hours per day of complete darkness. flowering in cannabis triggered hormonal reaction within plant initiated increase in length of dark cycle, i.e. plant needs sufficient prolonged darkness bract/bracteole (flowering) begin. indica varieties require little 8 hours of dark begin flowering, whereas sativa varieties require 13 hours.

water

watering frequency , amount determined many factors, including temperature , light, age, size , stage of growth of plant , medium s ability retain water. conspicuous sign of water problems wilting of leaves. giving water can kill young cannabis plants if growing medium gets oversaturated.

nutrients

nutrients taken soil roots. nutrient soil amendments (fertilizers) added when soil nutrients depleted. fertilizers can chemical or organic, liquid or powder, , contain mixture of ingredients. commercial fertilizers indicate levels of npk (nitrogen, phosphorus, , potassium). during vegetative stage, cannabis needs more n p , k, while during flowering stage, p more essential n , k. presence of secondary nutrients (calcium, magnesium, sulfur) recommended. micro nutrients (e.g. iron, boron, chlorine, manganese, copper, zinc, molybdenum) manifest deficiencies.

because cannabis nutrient needs vary depending on variety, determined trial , error , fertilizers applied sparingly avoid burning plant.
