batman s origin , history similar earth-one version of character, events unfold in more of real-time fashion. example, batman makes debut in 1939, meets robin, joker, catwoman , clayface @ various points in 1940, penguin in 1941, two-face in 1942, etc. these dates reflect publishing dates of original stories, rather taking earth-one , modern age approach of keeping characters eternally youthful.

bruce s parents, thomas , martha wayne, killed when 8 years old robber named joe chill, in 1924. according later retcon, martha died heart attack after thomas shot death.

several years after bruce wayne s death, batman s diary discovered , made public (as described in limited series america vs. justice society). in it, charged jsa treason, being spies hitler, resulting in team being put on trial. revealed hoax on batman s part, designed set trap longtime justice society foe, per degaton. knowing dying , not alive combat degaton s yet unrevealed scheme, wayne fabricated treason charges bring reexamination of jsa s history, giving them clues how defeat time traveling villain. prove earth 2 batman s final case, solved grave. professor zee, scientist had invented time machine (and per degaton shot), appeared it, had used transport himself 40 years future, , accused per degaton of murder. per degaton shot himself in head.

as tribute version of character, final formal appearance in secret origins vol. 2, #6 (sept. 1986) in story secret origins starring golden age batman writer roy thomas , artists marshall rogers , terry austin, retelling of earth-two batman s origin.

in limited series crisis on infinite earths, anti-monitor destroys universes, reducing universe anti-matter universe , single positive matter universe. earth-two never existed in new universe s history, retroactively removes earth-two batman history, blending elements of past of earth-one batman s, creating batman new modern continuity.

one year later

during infinite crisis, senior members of justice society regain memories of earth-two s previous existence. 1 year later, when gentleman ghost attacks jsa using powers of limited control on spirits of dead, jakeem thunder , thunderbolt assisted in battle spirits of various deceased jsa members , allies, including batman of earth-two. although jakeem confused presence, noting batman not dead, thunderbolt tells him not worry it.

the new 52

earth 2 writer james robinson has stated new 52 (a reboot of dc comics universe) earth 2 series set on new, reimagined version of pre crisis earth-two elder golden age heroes of jay garrick, alan scott , al pratt starting in modern day, instead of world war 2 era , earth-2 superman, batman , wonder woman first appearing in last 5 years. new 52 earth-2 batman sacrifices himself alongside earth s superman , wonder woman against invasion forces of apokolips.

the new earth-2 batman thomas wayne (father bruce wayne). corrupt doctor working mafia in gotham city, until rigged killing enabled him go undercover @ crime alley. original batman (bruce wayne) discovered father s imposture , disassociated himself thomas. following bruce wayne s death, thomas wayne became second batman. batman, thomas wayne uses hourman s miraclo pills.
