the circular drum head made of processed cow skin. there 12 hinges hold drum head wooden trunk using thick ropes. typical drum head size 32 cm , 23 cm inner diameter. playing area of drum head 20 cm in diameter. wedges inserted inside ropes twisted tighten or loosen drum head while tuning. tubular wooden wedge tied edge of drum head roll using dominant hand. traditionally chande must tuned octave above singers tonic (higher shadja).
