the one-off estate lamborghini —made hassanal bolkiah, sultan of brunei.


lamborghini built first military vehicle, prototype vehicle codenamed cheetah , in 1977. lamborghini had designed vehicle hopes of selling companies in oil exploration , production industry. original cheetah prototype had rear-mounted chrysler v8 engine. finished prototype never tested military, demonstrated them designer, rodney pharis. later sold teledyne continental motors mti , apparently still in us. led lamborghini develop lm001, similar cheetah, had amc v8 engine.


it determined engine being mounted in rear caused many unfavourable handling characteristics in offroad vehicle, , lma002 built entirely new chassis, moving engine (now v12 out of lamborghini countach) front. after testing , altering of prototype, given serial number , became first lm002. production model unveiled @ brussels auto show in 1986. dubbed rambo-lambo . civilian models outfitted full luxury package, including full leather trim, tinted power windows, air conditioning, , premium stereo mounted in roof console. in order meet vehicle s tire needs, lamborghini commissioned pirelli create pirelli scorpion tires custom, run-flat tread designs. these made lm , offered in 2 different tread designs, 1 mixed use , other sand use only. these tires run virtually flat without risk , handle desert heat, loading, , speeds of lm. lm002 fitted 290-litre fuel tank.


for requiring more power, lamborghini l804 type 7.2 litre marine v12, more commonly found in class 1 offshore powerboats, ordered.


in 1988, lamborghini sent lm002 team of engineers intention of making capable of participating in paris dakar rally. stripped of unnecessary weight , gave upgraded suspension, engine modifications brought 600 hp (450 kw), full roll cage, plexiglas windows, , gps equipment. funding ran out before officially entered in competition, although did participate in rallye des pharaons in egypt , in greece, both times driven sandro munari.


near end of lm002 s production, turin-based autoshop owner salvatore diomante created one-off estate version enclosing area , raising roof. added interior room.


on 18 july 2004, @ military base near baqubah, members of american military used lm002 had belonged uday hussein simulate effects of car bomb.


an lm002 featured in movies toys (1992) , fast , furious (2009).
