salem s lot

father callahan local roman catholic priest of small maine town of jerusalem s lot. callahan presides on funeral of danny glick, young boy was, unbeknownst townsfolk, killed vampire kurt barlow. life goes on normal, until more , more of populace disappear , turned vampires. ben mears, local writer, discovers epidemic has been propagating during nighttime. joined local teacher matt burke, doctor jimmy cody, , young mark petrie, convinces callahan of vampire presence , enlists him help.

callahan leads daytime assault on barlow s manor, find vampire has vacated premises in anticipation of attack. however, group uses opportunity slay vampiric susan, barlow had changed during , mark petrie s earlier assault on house, , purify house against future vampire occupation.

his faith falters in barlow s presence. after saving mark petrie vampire, faith fails , dependent on crucifix loses powers. barlow tears open own throat , forces priest drink blood, taunting him calling him shaman , damning him. defeated, callahan returns church, burns hand on door , refused entrance. callahan leaves town on bus, bemoaning how unclean has become.

wolves of calla

after fleeing salem s lot, callahan arrives in new york city, , becomes vagrant. able sense vampires, realizes live , hunt around him. alcoholism gets worse after starts working @ homeless shelter, begins recover. befriends several people, such rowan magruder , lupe delgado. callahan develops deep fondness lupe, , later admits having fallen in love him. wonders if means gay, despite brief kiss on cheek, nothing physical occurs between them.

callahan learns there 3 types of vampires. type ones powerful , immortal. can spread vampirism others , create type 2 vampires. kurt barlow type one. type twos more common , can create other type twos or type threes. lastly, type threes cannot spread vampirism can spread diseases travel blood, such hiv. callahan refers them mosquitoes . after lupe infected type 3 vampire , dies aids, callahan begins kill vampires (mostly type threes). attracts attention of crimson king , soldiers, low men or can-toi . hitler brothers, 2 hoodlums murder jews, black people , homosexuals , carve swastikas on victim s foreheads, hired find callahan. torture rowan magruder, later dies of wounds, in hopes of finding him.

they later find , attack callahan, , carve cross on forehead, intending become swastika. before can finish swastika, callahan rescued calvin tower , aaron deepneau, 2 men figure prominently later in roland s quest. hitler brothers flee, , later killed low men. callahan later lured building richard sayre, low man, , several vampires. rather infected, jumps out window committing suicide.

after death, wakes in way station, encounters walter o dim gives him black thirteen, 1 of bends in wizard s rainbow. walter apparently in hopes kill roland deschain later in journey. transports him doorway cave outside calla bryn sturgis, leads new life , on next 5 years attempts teach locals religion.

roughly every twenty-three years, callas raided wolves, turn out robotic soldiers serving crimson king. these wolves steal half of calla s children, return few months later roont . roont (ruined) children sterile, mentally handicapped, grow larger , stronger other children, , die painfully @ younger age. when roland , ka-tet arrive, callahan seeks defeat wolves. during stay, shares them story since events of salem s lot. wolves defeated of ka-tet, susannah becomes possessed demon succubus known mia , escapes via doorway cave. there, callahan discovers copy of novel salem s lot, in major character, causing him question reality.

song of susannah

immediately after events of previous book, ka-tet regroups in callahan s house, lay down plans of action; roland , eddie follow susannah new york while jake , callahan sent maine, in order visit calvin tower (the man saved callahan hitler brothers) stephen king, in order ensure remaining books written. while there, callahan planned on questioning king existence, goes wrong when door opened. group uncontrollably sucked through , separated, roland , eddie ending in maine , jake, callahan, , oy landing in new york city in year 1999.

the trio lands violently in middle of busy street, , oy run down speeding cab. preventing potentially deadly response angry jake, callahan beats down aggressive driver , bribes him (before jake had opportunity shoot him), , remove scene.

thanks jake s psychic connection susannah, find hotel susannah/mia left black thirteen. attempt remove safely, awakens , forces them both knees, urging them murder each other. succumb suicidal whisperings, callahan uses restored faith silence orb, putting slumber , saving lives.

in search of safe storage place, , jake move black thirteen long-term storage locker underneath world trade center, hope either stay dormant or roland @ point come destroy it. (rather aptly, comment on how building falling on might destroy it, foreshadowing future terrorist attack end of crystal ball.

they go dixie pig, restaurant stronghold of low men , vampires susannah being held, prepare ambush unknown forces within.

jake , callahan burst dixie pig, greeted preponderance of low men , lesser vampires, gathering of type 1 vampires (of there small number in existence).

seeing overwhelming odds against them, callahan sends jake on ahead rescue susannah while draws attention. after dispatching several low men , type ones, goaded toss away both cross , sigul of turtle (the magical ornament incapacitates low men). @ point callahan realizes did not understand while facing barlow in salem s lot; power of faith transcends such objects.

eventually, once jake has reached relative safety, callahan overwhelmed , swarmed vampires. before beasts can assault him, once again escapes clutches shooting himself under chin. before taking own life, converses briefly roland, bears witness scene across time , space. final words roland , in life benediction gunslinger: may find tower, roland, , breach it, ...and may climb top!

jake in particular disturbed death, , ka-tet mourned loss of friend , compatriot. when roland made dark tower, callahan s 1 of names shouted roland walks through field of roses, showing roland s respect , love redeemed priest.
