this expansion of downtown led increased congestion; often, parking became difficult find, on weekends. 1 proposal remedy building of parking garage in current parking-lot area; vocal residents, however, opposed waste of tax dollars. eventually, referendum on parking garage passed; ground broken on march 3, 2005. parking structure complete , operational. parking structure paid grant state advancement of public transportation (since increasing parking train commuters increase number of people willing use train). upkeep paid increase in sales tax @ restaurants , other entertainment establishments. there no increase in local property taxes.
la grange holds numerous public activities , festivals. annual pet parade celebrated 60th anniversary june 3, 2006. art fairs, historic housewalks, carnivals, , farmer s markets common, taking place in downtown area.
