in 1959 zhou, m. z described called new species of mammoth, m. sungari, gained recent notoriety largest proboscidean due 5.3 metres (17.4 ft) tall , 9.1 metres (29.9 ft) long composite skeletal mount based on 2 individuals found in 1980. however, wei et al. (2010), restudied fossils referred m sungari, considered species junior synonym of m. trogontherii. authors state of fossils referrable m. trogontherii, while others can referred m. primigenius, according morphological characters , measurements.
