elliott signed dallas cowboys in 1992 undrafted free agent, compete replacement kicker ken willis. started until hitting 13 straight field goals , registering 27 touchbacks, @ time both franchise records. ended helping team win super bowl xxvii , led nfl rookies in scoring.
he waived after missing 2 field goals in 10–13 loss against buffalo bills in second game of 1993 season, contributing 0–2 start. replaced eddie murray.

in 1995, team had gone 13–3 in regular season , had clinched home field advantage throughout playoffs, making them heavy favorites. although elliott struggled @ start of season, finished strong.
he best remembered missing 3 field goal attempts 35, 39, , 42 yards in 10–7 playoff loss indianapolis colts in january 1996. released after game, though had 81.7% field goal accuracy during 2 seasons , second-most accurate kicker in chiefs history. suffered late-season swoon, final miss against indianapolis ninth missed kick in 5 games.
