jerad miller

jerad dwain miller (january 3, 1983 – june 8, 2014) born in pasco, washington. arrested multiple offenses in indiana , washington, starting in 2001. in 2007, sentenced diversion program after pleading guilty felony criminal recklessness charge. in 2009, jerad arrested , charged battery, acquitted later year. in 2011, sentenced 2 years of probation , drug counseling after pleading guilty felony drug charges. same year, met amanda woodruff, whom applied marriage license in tippecanoe county, indiana in august. later married on september 22. prior shooting, worked street performer.


in february 2014, jerad threatened bureau of motor vehicles office in indiana, claiming start killing showed arrest him having suspended driver s license. described talking conspiracy theories, dressing in camouflage, , espousing hatred of federal government , president barack obama. fan of decentralized police accountability group cop block , share online videos of police brutality, posts of conspiracy theories , anti-government rhetoric.


prior shooting, jerad had accounts on facebook , youtube, made ranting posts , videos. once posted on june 2:



we can hope peace. must, however, prepare war. face enemy not funded, believe fight freedom , justice. of know truth , dare speak it, know enemy face indeed our brothers. ... stop oppression, fear, can ... accomplished bloodshed.



one month prior shooting, jerad asked several other facebook users send him rifle stand against tyranny . on day prior shooting, jerad posted message on account forewarned attack:



the dawn of new day. may of our coming sacrifices worth it.



amanda miller

amanda miller (née woodruff, c. 1992 – june 8, 2014) born in indiana. did not have criminal record preceding shootings. in 2011, met jerad miller, whom applied marriage license in tippecanoe county, indiana in august 2012. married on september 22. jerad, had facebook account, in made multiple posts, including numerous photos depicting millers dressed supervillains. in 1 such photo, amanda , jerad dressed batman villains harley quinn , joker, respectively; according neighbor, millers particularly liked dress characters. in 1 of facebook posts, dated may 23, 2011, wrote:



[t]o people in world...your lucky can t kill remember 1 day 1 day because 1 day hell break lose , ll standing in middle of shot gun in 1 hand , pistol in other. [sic]



on january 2014, millers moved lafayette, indiana las vegas, nevada, amanda recorded.


presence @ bundy standoff

during april 2014 bundy standoff, in bureau of land management (blm) attempted round cattle belonging rancher cliven bundy, refused vacate public land, jerad miller said have been among armed protesters joined bundy during incident. according bundy s son, ammon bundy, millers present during standoff few days, had been instructed militia member leave due radical beliefs , did not align protest s main issues. instructed leave because jerad miller felon in possession of firearm. carol bundy later commented, have not seen or heard militia , others have came our ranch would, in way, make me think had intent kill or harm anyone.


during standoff, jerad miller had made interviews other protesters @ ranch, , interviewed cnn, nbc news affiliate krnv-dt, , other news stations, during said:

motives

jerad miller posted several online videos in dressed joker. in 1 video, expressed strong hatred law enforcement , police officers in general, warning in online video cannot trusted . in another, denounced u.s. government being oppressive, criticizing measures @ gun control, surveillance, , treatment of cliven bundy during april 2014 standoff. friends of millers reported idolized eric harris , dylan klebold, 2 perpetrators of 1999 columbine high school massacre, , wanted follow in footsteps. millers ideology government has been described along lines of militia , white supremacists police official. during shooting, millers placed swastika on body of slain officer alyn beck; police officials remarked act didn t signify millers white supremacists, instead intended associate police officers nazism.


the millers supported patriot movement, collection of various groups shared ideology limited federal government. according mark potok, spokesperson southern poverty law center, there no evidence belonged in specific group, considered outcome of standoff between cliven bundy , blm huge victory against federal government , reportedly motivated them commit shooting spree.
