obergfell lived in london 1991 2010. in 2004, joined photodebut, london-based collective of twenty-five new photographic artists. work later appeared in case study, art photography volume released collective. first solo exhibition last stop: routemasters, focusing on design, cultural , social aspects of aec routemaster, shown @ london transport museum in 2008. critical response exhibition , associated multimedia projects positive, time out london describing plumbline reservoir of emotions associated [routemaster]. eponymous book accompanying exhibition later nominated london and/or photography book prize.

working in creative collaboration artist jonny woo , djs per qx , nic fisher, obergfell co-organized lgbt club event gutterslut in london during period. gutterslut later referred guardian east london staple . time out london included event among critics picks, describing east london s hedonistic polysexual tranny bash . gutterslut attended partygoers, drag artists , celebrities including pet shop boys singer neil tennant said of party: these days, go berghain [the infamous berlin club] on sunday lunchtime, or gutterslut in east london. [...] crazy nights ridiculous drag queens, not people taking photos of dj night.
in summer of 2012, obergfell, fellow gutterslut organisers, hosted big top stage @ annual lovebox festival in victoria park, london. gutterslut hosted renowned underground artists dj hell , felix da housecat @ xoyo in london in 2014.
beautiful freaks
obergfell s involvement in gutterslut influenced work photographer. during period, obergfell began experiment artistic portrait photography. working in collaboration installation artist tony hornecker, created second solo exhibition, beautiful freaks, in 2009, first shown @ dalston superstore photographs featuring drag artists appeared @ east london nightclubs around time. dalston superstore referred obergfell s photographs images become historical, , mark period in time.
critical reception beautiful freaks positive despite controversial subject matter, featured depictions of many wonderful , depraved acts according gallery. in interview i-d magazine, obergfell described project portraiture series , tribute our friends, of london s iconic creatures of night. show later selected displayed @ royal college of art in london part of gender , performance group show.
