the world premiere of rio took place on march 22, 2011, @ cinépolis theater in lagoa, rio de janeiro. united states premiere on april 10, 2011, @ grauman’s chinese theatre in hollywood, california, , released throughout country 5 days later. since may 2009, had been scheduled released in united states on april 8, 2011, in december 2010, rescheduled week later april 15, 2011. pixar animation studios cancelled release of planned 2012 film newt because of similarity of plotline rio.

in april 2011, oreo announced special edition oreo cookies blue cream in promotion of film. promotion included stickers inside each package of cookies. 2 types of contest announced: first, completing album of stickers, consumers win 3 movie passes , medium snack bar combos; second, finding winning stickers in packages prizes including trip rio de janeiro, backpacks, cinema passes year, , 3d glasses. promotion ended on may 30, 2011. promotion available in ecuador, peru, , colombia.


on january 27, 2011, rovio mobile announced partnership 20th century fox promote film. game angry birds rio released in march 2011 on android market , apple app store 50 levels. rovio released more levels throughout 2011. dvd , blu-ray release, rovio , 20th century fox announced going start selling rio plush toys in angry birds online store , dvd , blu-ray comes code 15 hidden levels, along 3 angry birds rio videos. also, mcdonald s ran promotion rio toys in happy meals.
