the bahia palace, set in extensive gardens, built in late 19th century grand vizier of marrakesh, si ahmed ben musa (bou-ahmed). bou ahmed resided here 4 wives, 24 concubines , many children. name meaning brilliance , intended greatest palace of time, designed capture essence of islamic , moroccan architectural styles. bou-ahmed paid special attention privacy of palace in construction , employed architectural features such multiple doors prevented passers-by seeing interior. palace took 7 years build, hundreds of craftsmen fes working on wood, carved stucco , zellij. palace set in two-acre (8,000 m²) garden rooms opening onto courtyards. palace acquired reputation 1 of finest in morocco , envy of other wealthy citizens. upon death of bou-ahmed in 1900, palace raided sultan abd al-aziz.
