history

on december 12, 1956, shuangguisi airport put under civil aviation, formally listed civil aviation airport , renamed chengdu shuangliu airport. in 1957, flights of chengdu civil aviation shifted shuangliu airport guanghan airport. flight courses chengdu opened various cities within china including beijing, taiyuan, xi an, chongqing, kunming, guiyang, nanchong, etc. airport went through several earlier expansions in 1959, 1967, 1983 , 1991 respectively.
current status
a large-scale expansion conducted on flight area , navigation area 1994 2001. runway extended 3,600 metres (11,811 ft) class 4e rating, allowing larger jumbo jets including boeing 747-400. newly built terminal building incorporated three-parallel-porch design, accommodating hourly capacity of 3,500 passengers during rush hours, while previous terminal building designated regional flights within sichuan , chongqing.
