the composer richard wagner stayed in venice 6 times between 1858 , death. arrived in italy on final trip not long after performances of opera parsifal premiered @ second bayreuth festival. rented entire piano nobile (mezzanine) level of ca vendramin calergi count de bardi before departure , arrived on 16 september 1882 wife cosima liszt, 4 children (daniela von bülow, isolde, eva , siegfried wagner) , household servants.


wagner died of heart attack in palace on 13 february 1883 @ age 69. memorial plaque on brick wall adjacent building inscribed tribute novelist , poet gabriele d annunzio reads:

the wagner museum (museo wagner) opened @ palace in february 1995. holds josef lienhart collection of rare documents, musical scores, signed letters, paintings, records , other heirlooms. holdings constitute largest private collection dedicated wagner outside of bayreuth. museum open public on saturday mornings appointment.
