the f-111 all-weather attack aircraft capable of low-level penetration of enemy defences deliver ordnance on target. featured variable geometry wings, internal weapons bay , cockpit side-by-side seating. cockpit formed part of escape crew capsule. f-111 had three-point undercarriage arrangement two-wheel nose gear , 2 single-wheel main undercarriage. f-111 variants included terrain-following radar system connected autopilot. aircraft powered 2 pratt & whitney tf30 afterburning turbofan engines.
the f-111 s internal weapons bay carry bombs, removable 20 mm m61 cannon, or auxiliary fuel tanks. f-111c equipped carry an/avq-26 pave tack targeting system on rotating carriage kept pod protected within weapons bay when not in use. pave tack flir , laser rangefinder/designator allowed f-111 designate targets , drop laser-guided bombs on them. rf-111cs carried pallet of sensors , cameras reconnaissance use. f-111cs equipped launch agm-84 harpoon anti-ship missile , agm-142 popeye stand-off missile.
