on 23 january, tawakel karman detained , charged inciting disorder , chaos , organising unauthorised demonstrations , marches . karman leader of 2 student rallies in sana , called overthrow of saleh s regime. husband said whereabouts not known. several hundred students protested outside sana university demanding release. thousands of people protested against arrest of karman , other protestors sit-in outside of prosecutor s office. freed 30 hours after arrest on parole, condition not violate public order , law . karman returned participating in demonstrations hours after release.


on 14 march, security forces raided apartment shared 4 western journalists , deported them. reporters without borders condemned action , noted 2 other foreign journalists deported 2 days earlier. committee protect journalists condemned expulsions. said 2 yemeni journalists informed them group of twenty people, believed government supporters, went yemeni journalists syndicate in sana day earlier , threatened burn down. further said yemeni journalists facing increasing harassment.
