gerald has limited controls being able move around use of braking , accelerating; there no jumping, attacking or other actions. player must guide device through several levels. there many hazards, enemies, , puzzles based on finding , pressing switches in correct order, navigating thin pathways without falling off, , finding gems dotted section. gerald cannot jump on own, can reach higher platforms , traverse large gaps accelerating , jumping on slopes or ramps, or using moving platforms, warps or platforms make bounce. gerald s health, called fuel, full @ beginning of each level , depletes on time quick movements. falling height onto surface, falling off bottom of stage, or contact enemies , hazards takes away health, replenished in small amounts after finishing section of stage , collecting gems found around levels. levels contain enemies, hinder player s progress , not have defeated progress , can avoided. stages can viewed 4 different camera views @ 90° angle rotation each other , player has manual control on camera view; views of objects , paths may obscured behind other platforms in views, , easier seen in others.
to start, level select screen has 2 clusters or star systems, easy , hard, named easydizzy , spindizzy in snes version. harder system contains more complex levels , higher number of levels easier system. in both clusters, planets represent levels, , although player has choice of level play, easier outer planets must completed before harder inner planets can selected. central star final stage , can selected after others beaten. levels individually named , may have distinct visual or gameplay style. in snes version, once level has been completed, planet explode , level cannot revisited; player given password.
