drafts , signings

on january 11, 2013, part of nwsl player allocation, kaylyn kyle (can), teresa noyola (mex), megan rapinoe (usa), amy rodriguez (usa), jenny ruiz (mex), hope solo (usa), , emily zurrer (can) named seattle team. on january 18, reign selected christine nairn, mallory schaffer, kristen meier, , haley kopmeyer @ 2013 nwsl college draft. on february 4, 2013, announced team had signed 4 free agents: kate deines, jessica fishlock, tiffany cameron, , lindsay taylor. during february 7, 2013 nwsl supplemental draft, team selected nikki krzysik, lauren barnes, laura heyboer, liz bogus, michelle betos , kaley fountain.


preseason

leading preseason, learned reign without of u.s. national team allocated players half of season. national team forward, amy rodriguez, announced pregnant first child , not playing during inaugural season. u.s. national team goalkeeper, hope solo, away first part of season after recovering wrist surgery , megan rapinoe had signed french side, olympique lyonnais, january june , miss @ least 9 games.


regular season

after traveling japan in preseason play matches against defending l. league champion inac kobe leonessa, fukuoka j. anclas, , nojima stella kanagawa, reign faced first regular season match against chicago red stars @ benedictine university, in seattle s first college draft pick, christine nairn, scored reign s first goal of season via header off assist liz bogus. red stars later tied game 1-1, point seattle earned in game next 9 games. without u.s. national team players or veteran goalscorer front, team struggled win games. although losses part consistently low-scoring games, apparent reign missing final ingredients success.


in june 2013, head coach laura harvey began making trades , signing new players. forward , canadian international, tiffany cameron waived, later picked fc kansas city , former u.s. national team defender, stephanie cox added roster. mexican allocated player , former stanford cardinal standout, teresa noyola, traded fc kansas city renae cuellar, , noyola s fellow former stanford cardinal goal-scorer, lindsay taylor traded washington spirit. after brief stint on team tobagonian international, kennya cordner later waived , replaced australian national team co-captain, emily van egmond due league s restriction on having 2 international players on team (in addition allocated players), , return of u.s. national team players, solo , rapinoe, reign began turn season around 1-1 tie against western new york flash. game first of six-game undefeated streak reign 2 ties , 4 wins. after losing regional rival, portland thorns fc, 2-1 in season finale in front of sold-out crowd of 3,855, reign ended 2013 nwsl season seventh in league 5-14-3 record.
