jake , callahan burst dixie pig, greeted preponderance of low men , lesser vampires, gathering of type 1 vampires (of there small number in existence).


seeing overwhelming odds against them, callahan sends jake on ahead rescue susannah while draws attention. after dispatching several low men , type ones, goaded toss away both cross , sigul of turtle (the magical ornament incapacitates low men). @ point callahan realizes did not understand while facing barlow in salem s lot; power of faith transcends such objects.


eventually, once jake has reached relative safety, callahan overwhelmed , swarmed vampires. before beasts can assault him, once again escapes clutches shooting himself under chin. before taking own life, converses briefly roland, bears witness scene across time , space. final words roland , in life benediction gunslinger: may find tower, roland, , breach it, ...and may climb top!


jake in particular disturbed death, , ka-tet mourned loss of friend , compatriot. when roland made dark tower, callahan s 1 of names shouted roland walks through field of roses, showing roland s respect , love redeemed priest.
