the original manga written , illustrated harold sakuishi , published kodansha in monthly shōnen magazine 1999 may 2008 issue (which released on april 5). special 77-page side-story published in october 2008 issue of monthly shōnen magazine. depicts last day of eddie lee, popular american rock musician , ryusuke s friend. 103 chapters (including eddie lee special) combined 34 tankōbon volumes.


the manga licensed english-language release tokyopop. tokyopop s german branch published german-language version. in january 2009, announced kodansha let of tokyopop s german licenses expire, including beck. subsequently led tokyopop s english license of beck expiring well. 12 volumes published. series has been released in french, italian, korean , chinese, delcourt/akata, dynit, haksan culture company , tong li publishing respectively.


anime

the 26-episode anime television series titled beck: mongolian chop squad, after subtitle used band in series in united states, , aired on japan s tv tokyo october 2004 march 2005. directed osamu kobayashi, animated madhouse , produced takeshi shukuri , yoshimi nakajima.


the anime has been dubbed , broadcast on tv networks in north america, france, italy, philippines , thailand.


english adaptation

on saturday, may 27 @ anime boston 2006, u.s.-based anime distributor funimation entertainment announced had acquired license beck: mongolian chop squad anime. taliesin jaffe (known directing dub of hellsing) , christopher bevins (known directing dubs of speed grapher , samurai 7) directors of english version. first dvd released in 2007, , last in january 2008. english dub released revelation films in uk , madman entertainment in australia , new zealand.


beck made north american television debut on canadian music channel, muchmusic, on march 9, 2007. series finished on june 3. despite fact shōnen series, show rated tv-14 language , violence, dvd edition rated tv-ma strong language, including near-constant use of word fuck in first episode , in subsequent episodes.


in english adaptation, many songs re-recorded english lyrics. sung lyrics of english songs in anime, such moon on water , follow me , altered correct grammar, although incorrect grammar still appears in english subtitles. beatles song ve got feeling has lyrics replaced in american dvds.


live-action film

a live-action film adaptation of beck manga announced in 2009, filming beginning in july. produced , directed yukihiko tsutsumi, has directed manga-to-film adaptations in past (most notably 20th century boys trilogy). stars takeru satoh koyuki, hiro mizushima ryusuke, kenta kiritani chiba, aoi nakamura saku , osamu mukai taira. actors given proper training on instruments 30 original songs written film.


beck released nationwide in movie theaters on september 4, 2010. red hot chili peppers , oasis provide opening , ending theme songs, around world , don t in anger respectively.


grand funk inc. given japan academy prize outstanding achievement in music music work in film. movie released on dvd , blu-ray on february 2, 2011. dvd came in standard , luxury editions, luxury edition including bonus dvd.


soundtracks

in 2002, manga received tribute album featuring several different artists. songs used in anime performed character s voice actors beat crusaders released on soundtrack in 2002. same day album featuring same songs, in original versions, released. soundtrack live-action movie released in 2010.
