the team founded in 1915 siam national football team , played first unofficial match (against team of europeans) @ royal bangkok sport club stadium on 20 december of year. on 25 april 1916, king vajiravudh established football association of siam. team played first international match in 1930 against indochina national team, included both south vietnamese , french players. both siam team , governing association renamed in 1949 when siam became thailand.


thailand appeared in 1956 summer olympics in melbourne, lost great britain score of 0–9 (the largest defeat in team history) , failed advance quarterfinals. in 1965, thailand won first place in southeast asian games first time.


the team made appearance @ summer olympics in 1968, losing bulgaria 0–7, guatemala 1–4, , czechoslovakia 0–8 en route first-round exit. thailand s latest appearance in olympics.


1992 featured 1 of thailand s signature victories. playing in bangkok against south korea, had qualified consecutive fifa world cups in 1986 , 1990, , being strongest team in asia @ time, thais upset koreans, beating them 2 1. thailand later defeat bangladesh 1–0, winning group , therefore qualifying 1992 afc asian cup. war elephants put on strong performance @ tournament, drawing eventual 3rd place china , qatar before losing eventual runners saudi arabia 4 nil.


in 1994, team manager thawatchai sartjakul assembled team has been renounced dream team key players kiatisuk zico senamuang, tawan sripan , dusit chalermsan.
