the light of lighthouse
in 1859 new lighthouse completed destroyed during civil war, on february 23, 1863, confederate john w. glenn. confederate soldiers @ fort morgan observed union soldiers in lighthouse, spying on fort, , guns of fort open fire totally destroying lighthouse. in 1864 48 feet (15 m) wooden tower built lasted until 1873.
construction
by september 1864 current lighthouse completed, included two-story lighthouse keepers dwelling, , land @ time approximately 400 acres (160 ha). base 28 feet (8.5 m) in diameter , 6 feet (1.8 m) thick, constructed on 171 interconnected wood pilings covered 12 feet (3.7 m) of concrete, , 125 feet (38 m) focal height.
