veisiejai first mentioned belonging glinski family in 1501. later property of massalski family , subsequently inherited ogiński family.


yuri olelkovich, duke of slutsk, managed market privilege in 1525 , built first church in 1526.


veisiejai has rare surviving wooden synagogue. jews started settle here in 18th century. first synagogue constructed in 1748. destroyed fire , restored several times. jewish library , hebrew school operated in versiejai before war. during german occupation, veisiejai jews killed in katkiske ghetto.


between 1950 , 1959 veisiejai district center. in 1956 became town. coat of arms created laima ramonienė , approved president of lithuania on march 23, 2000.
