2006: two-year-old season

as two-year-old literato unbeaten in 5 races, although competed @ minor tracks in french provinces. after dead-heating on 1100 metres on debut @ tarbes on 1 may won on 1400 metres @ vichy in july , won on 1600 metres in more competitive event @ deauville racecourse in august. in last-named event won 2 , half lengths thousand stars went on win 2 editions of grande course de haies d auteuil. in last 2 races of season literato moved listed class. won criterium de lyon @ lyon-parilly in september , criterium du languedoc @ toulouse on 11 november.


2007: three-year-old season

in 2007, literato ridden in of races christophe lemaire had partnered him @ deauville in previous season. began second season in listed prix omnium ii on 1600 metres @ saint-cloud racecourse on 23 march , finished second of 5 runners, 2 lengths behind hurricane fly , 3 lengths ahead of spirit 1 (later win arlington million). moved in class , distance group 3 prix la force on 2000 metres @ longchamp racecourse on 15 may , started 3/1 second favourite behind aidan o brien-trained chinese whisper. after being restrained @ of six-runner field before moving forward on outside in straight, taking lead 100 metres finish , beating chinese whisper 3 quarters of length. after race rouget said winner appreciated longer distance. has super action such little horse .


on 3 june literato started 9/1 fourth choice in betting 170th running of group 1 prix du jockey club on 2100 metres @ chantilly racecourse. 4/1 joint-favourites prix de guiche winner lawman , british-trained colt raincoat (runner-up authorized in dante stakes) unbeaten zambezi sun third choice on 6/1. again held lemaire before moving forward in straight , made steady progress finish second of twenty runners, 1 , half lengths behind lawman. after 2 , half month break, literato returned in group 2 prix guillaume d ornano on 2000 metres @ deauville on 18 august , started favourite @ odds of 6/5. usual, literato raced @ of field , still ninth of ten runners on final turn. made rapid progress in straight , took lead in closing stages win half length spirit one. rouget called winner super horse, real phenomenon whilst racing post s correspondent called colt s finishing run spectacular .


at longchamp on 22 september, literato started odds-on favourite group 3 prix du prince d orange despite conceding weight 5 opponents. lemaire employed customary tactics, holding colt in stages before producing strong late run. literato took lead 200 metres out , won comfortably 3 quarters of length indian choice. 4 weeks later literato sent england contest group 1 champion stakes on ten furlongs @ newmarket racecourse , started 7/2 second favourite behind notnowcato four-year-old had won eclipse stakes , tattersalls gold cup. other runners included eagle mountain (ridden johnny murtagh), speciosa, mount nelson, multidimensional (prix guillaume d ornano, rose of lancaster stakes), creachadoir (tetrarch stakes, joel stakes), doctor dino (man o war stakes) , maraahel (hardwicke stakes). literato held usual before making rapid progress in last quarter mile , moved take lead eagle mountain in final furlong. eagle mountain rallied in final strides, literato maintained narrow advantage win short head, gap of 3 lengths doctor dino in third. after race, morin said courageous horse, , likes battle. have liked run him in arc de triomphe, jean-claude said no, win champion stakes . lemaire commented feel great on track , have had nice victories. horse travelled way. know horse fighter - thought win easier johnny s horse tough.


2008: four-year-old season

before start of 2008 season, literato sold privately godolphin , joined stable of saeed bin suroor. failed reproduce best form new connections, finishing twelfth when favourite dubai duty free, , running last of 6 behind sageburg in prix d ispahan @ longchamp in may.
