mission

sbp s stated mission shrink time between disaster , full recovery ensuring disaster-impacted citizens , communities recover in prompt, efficient , predictable manner, reducing construction time 30 percent , costs 10 15 percent. this, project uses under 1 roof model, incorporating many facets of volunteer-based rebuilding program 1 entity. project recruits , trains volunteers, provides skilled site managers, provides health services, , coordinates fundraising. sbp started center wellness , mental health provided mental health services citizens unable pay elsewhere. byt fifth anniversary, organization had expanded include rebuilding efforts in baton rouge, louisiana, joplin, missouri, columbia, south carolina, new jersey, new york, , west virginia. new disasters arise, sbp re-assesses place offices in zones greatest need, , each office has corresponding executive director. in 2017, directors are:

the project has 3 distinct programs, of target specific needs of different groups in community: rebuilding program, affordable rental/first time homeowners program, , veteran s initiative.


rebuild

the owner-occupied rebuilding program volunteer-driven program evaluates need of homeowners , either supplies skilled labor them rebuild homes, or, if homeowner cannot afford them on own, provides building materials paid donations. rebuilding program can rebuild home in 12 weeks, around us$75,000.


opportunity housing program

the affordable rental/first time homeowners program aims provide housing options senior , disabled residents of sbp face 50% increases in rental rates since hurricane katrina.


veteran s initiative

sbp s veterans programs focused on addressing 3 problems: high unemployment rate among men , women have served in armed forces; affordable housing crisis; , high instance of blighted , vacant properties in new orleans area. hiring , training veterans in residential construction , paying them fair , livable wages , benefits, sbp can both increase workforce rebuild homes, , improve blighted , vacant properties , neighborhoods.


the work pay program utilizes trained workforce build or rebuild affordable homes , stabilize blighted, vacant, , disaster-impacted communities. these employees complete electric, plumbing , carpentry work rebuilding program , opportunity housing program, thereby minimizing sbp s need subcontractors, speeding , reducing cost of projects.
