despite differences in dialect , denomination, linguists consider catalan , valencian 2 varieties of same language. feature relative uniformity in terms of vocabulary, semantics, syntax, morphology , phonology. mutual intelligibility ranges 90 95%, considerably higher between dialects of assumed single german language (high german). furthermore, there dialect continuum speakers @ catalan–valencian border share same dialect. in practice, catalan , valencian share same written standard, established avl , institut d estudis catalans respectively. of bibliography used in valencian education system consists of catalan works , translations in catalan words being swapped more commonly used in valencia. furthermore, universities of valencia , alicante refer valencian studies of language , literature catalan philology.


in spite of these arguments, significant proportion of valencian population refuse identify valencian catalan. phenomenon known blaverism. position held use castilian more commonly valencian or not use latter fluently promote spanish nationalism , oppose catalan independence. government of pp has been criticized publicly endorsing of these positions. however, younger generations educated in valencian less hold these views.
