world war i

the regiment constituted 5 august 1917 in national army 351st infantry , assigned 176th infantry brigade of 88th division. organized @ camp dodge, iowa on 30 august 1917, , herbert b. crosby named command it. in august 1917, regiment organized 3,755 officers , enlisted men:

the doughboys of regiment deployed france part of american expeditionary forces . after completing war service in france demobilized @ camp dodge on 7 june 1919.


between wars

the regiment reconstituted in organized reserves 351st infantry on 24 june 1921 , reassigned 88th division (later redesignated 88th infantry division) in sixth corps area.


world war ii

the regiment ordered active military service 15 july 1942 , reorganized @ camp gruber, oklahoma using cadre provided 9th infantry division. regiment participated in louisiana maneuvers in june through august 1943. regiment departed camp patrick henry on 4 november 1943 through hampton roads port of embarkation shipment 8629-h. in july 1943, regiment organized 3,256 officers , enlisted men:

trieste united states troops

the 351st infantry relieved assignment division on 1 may 1947 , served temporary military government of free territory of trieste, securing new independent state between italy , yugoslavia on behalf of united nations security council. designated trust (trieste united states troops), command served front line in cold war 1947 1954, including confrontations yugoslavian forces. in october 1954 mission ended upon signing of memorandum of understanding of london establishing temporary civil administration in anglo-american zone of free territory of trieste, entrusted responsibility of italian government. trust units, included number of 88th divisional support units, bore unit patch coat of arms of free territory of trieste superimposed on divisional quatrefoil, on blue scroll containing designation trust in white. 1948 organization of regiment called strength of 3,774 officers , enlisted men organized below:

returning home

the regiment departed leghorn, italy on november 30, 1954 aboard military sea transportation service usns general sturgis shipment #19069-a. returning camp kilmer, new jersey, regiment inactivated @ fort rucker, alabama on september 30, 1956.


under 84th training division

the 351st infantry redesignated 351st regiment, , reorganized consist of 1st, 2d, , 3d battalions, elements of 84th division (training) on 31 january 1968. on 16 september 1995, regimental headquarters , 3rd battalion inactivated.


current assignment

the 1st battalion regular army unit assigned 181st infantry brigade @ fort mccoy, wisconsin mission train brigade support battalions.


the 2nd battalion army reserve unit mission train combat support , combat service support units.


the 3rd battalion army reserve unit assigned provides observer, controller/ trainers (oc/t) , staff various mobilization training centers responsible conducting post mobilization training reserve component units preparing them deployment overseas contingency operations.
