first bahá í house of worship 1908
when ashgabat under russian rule, number of bahá ís in city rose on 1,000, , bahá í community established, own schools, medical facilities , cemetery. community elected 1 of first bahá í local administrative institutions. in 1908 bahá í community completed construction of first bahá í house of worship, referred arabic name of mašriqu-l- aḏkār (arabic: مشرق اﻻذكار), people of religions may worship god without denominational restrictions. building designed under guidance of `abdu l-bahá ustad ali-akbar banna yazdi wrote history of baha in ashgabat.
the house of worship surrounded gardens, 4 buildings @ 4 corners of gardens: school, hostel travelling bahá ís entertained, small hospital, , building groundskeepers.
under soviet policy towards religion, bahá ís, strictly adhering principle of obedience legal government, abandoned these properties in 1928. decade 1938 1948, when damaged earthquake, art gallery. demolished in 1963.
after 1991
after exiting soviet union, city gained many high-rise residential buildings. modern construction techniques allow high-rise development (mainly 12 storeys) relatively protection against earthquakes. consisting of residential towers, first floor typically given shopping area , service department. many of buildings made of white marble. arch of neutrality dismantled , re-erected in original form in south of capital. turkmenistan tower, @ height of 211 meters, tallest building in country.
ashgabat government , administrative centre. business centre of ashgabat on archabil highway. construction of several ministries , departments, teaching , research , cultural centres complete. development of office buildings , public spaces along avenue continues.
