hermannstraße on route of first segment of berlin ringbahn opened on 15 november 1877 (with passenger service beginning on 1 january 1878). @ time closest station rixdorf. today berlin-neukölln because locality changed name in 1912. hermannstraße station opened on 1 february 1899, 1 of several suburban stations added during enlargement of ring line 4 tracks.
initially access @ east end of station, via small building red-tiled roof. in 1910 second entrance on siegfriedstraße added. 29 years station served steam trains. after creation of greater berlin in 1920, electrification create s-bahn system began in 1924; ringbahn incorporated on 6 november 1928.

in 1895 committee of residents of mittenwalde formed committee construct railway mittenwalde rixdorf, since existing rail routes not conveniently located. finding cost prohibitive, partnered vering & waechter, company @ time developing rail lines throughout germany. on 23 february 1899, rixdorf-mittenwalder eisenbahn aktiengesellschaft founded; still exists today. vering & waechter, given responsibility planning , construction, mapped out 27 km route north mittenwalde hermannstraße 7 intermediate stations: brusendorf, groß kienitz, selchow, schönefeld, rudow, buckow , britz. after ringbahn station built, plans changed , hermannstraße terminus of line became transfer point , britz station operating centre.
the operating licence line granted on 21 july 1899, , opened on 28 september 1900. 4 years later extended southwards schöneiche plan. when rixdorf became neukölln in 1912, line became neukölln-mittenwalder eisenbahn (neukölln - mittenwalde railway).
during , after world war ii
during world war ii mittenwalde line heavily used transporting both munitions , passengers, reaching peak of on 1 million tonnes , 3 million passengers in 1942/43.
the hermannstraße s-bahn station not damaged during bombing of berlin, entrance severely damaged during battle berlin , stretch of ringbahn closed april 1945 until 18 june 1945.
the mittenwalde line closed until 17 may 1945, when bridge on teltow canal repaired red army. in september 1946, soviet occupying administration took possession of portion of line outside berlin under eminent domain , transferred operation brandenburg state railways, , in berlin blockade of 1948/49, line severed @ boundary american sector. 11.5 km of line sidings within berlin remained unaffected, , company had constructed 5 km extension tempelhof airfield in 1936, used transport coal flown there in berlin airlift, avoiding east berlin-controlled deutsche reichsbahn.
s-bahn operation continued under deutsche reichsbahn during , after blockade, boycotted in west berlin. in 1961, year contact between east , west berlin severed, siegfriedstraße entrance hermannstraße station closed. destroyed main entrance under restoration until 1968/69, in 1971 demolished , replaced modern building, opened in june 1973; siegfriedstraße entrance, reopened during work, closed , demolished 3 years later. after september 1980 strike of west berlin s-bahn workers, reichsbahn closed s-bahn in west berlin, including ringbahn.
the neukölln - mittenwalde line, in contrast, profited increased goods traffic after west berlin power company, bewag, built power plant @ rudow. within city, passenger stations demolished, while outside city, in gdr, rails taken station buildings remained.
reopening after reunification

the reichsbahn transferred s-bahn berliner verkehrsbetriebe (berlin transport) in 1984, , after public enthusiasm increased, preparations began in 1989 gradually reopening ringbahn beginning in 1992.
the fall of berlin wall november , ensuing german reunification changed plans: stretch of ringbahn reopened extended former east berlin , reopening deferred 1993. hermannstraße station rebuilt in new position under bridge hermannstraße crosses s-bahn cutting, hardly traces of historic station remain. new station has 2 entrance buildings on hermannstraße, painted blue , green draw attention connection between s-bahn , u-bahn line 8 @ station, realised after 60 years opening of u-bahn station on 13 july 1996.
service on western portion of ringbahn ceremonially relaunched on 17 december 1993, on stretch of line including hermannstraße station. station served 3 s-bahn lines originate southeast of city: s47, s46 königs wusterhausen , s45 schönefeld airport, plus 2 ringbahn lines, s41 , s42. new two-track turning area @ hermannstraße terminus of s47.
also since german reunification, mittenwalde line became route city s household waste conveyed in containers berliner stadtreinigung (berlin sanitation) depot on teltow canal hermannstraße terminus of line, known güterbahnhof neukölln, neukölln goods station, transferred deutsche bahn goods trains. in december 2005, however, district of neukölln decided convert unused track area in goods station industrial use; neukölln-mittenwalder eisenbahn wind operations there @ point in future. supposed regional railway station plans scrapped.
