the consolidated newell-fonda school district regarded being powerhouse in 8-man sports. high school small class school in rural iowa average of 150 students in grades 9-12. however, have rich tradition in both boys , girls basketball , football.

newell-fonda has won 4 state titles in 9 appearances since 1991. senior class of 2000 responsible 3 state titles in 4 years of high school. hold 9th longest winning streak in iowa boys basketball history, 49 consecutive wins (including postseason games) 1996 through 1998.

jason sarchet, 1999 newell-fonda graduate, played in 2004 ncaa tournament liberty university. best known height , having 14 blocked shots in 1 game in 1997-98 season. during career, averaged 6.4 blocked shots per game. in addition, attained 970 rebounds in high school career, among leaders in state history. jason sarchet named class 1a player of year following 1999 season. all-state players (13)

newell-fonda girls basketball has followed suit male classmates. newell-fonda 12-22 playing in ten state tournaments since 1995. girls have yet win state title coming in runner-up 5 of ten appearances , losing 3 of them < 3 points.

newell-fonda has had rich tradition in football program. since 1997, have reached state playoffs 5 times (1997, 1999, 2003, 2005, , 2006). have reached state quarterfinals on 5 occasions, , in 2013-2014 team made state semi-finals lost exira elkhorn-kimbalton. next year team started off 0-3 record, worked way play offs , state championship. 2014-2015 team won state championship against fremont-mills , took first football state title.


newell-fonda has record of 70-18 1997 through 2006. have been ranked within top 10 in des moines register s state rankings virtually every week of reign.



softball


in 2008, newell-fonda mustangs softball team become first female sports team win championship in newell-fonda history. defeated martinsdale st. marys 6-3 in championship game.
