19th century and 20th century Santiago Apóstol Parish (Tequixquiac)

in 1804, german explorer alexander von humboldt visited town of tequixquiac, studied topography , geography drain waters of mexico city zumpango, made small trip in region, inside parish of saint james apostle in tequixquiac, observed how parish priest beating indian people.


after independence of mexico, public affairs conducted inside temple assistance of people in celebrations, there elected first mayor of tequixquiac municipality in 1826, voting in place, in 1851, create guard protected inhabitants , ways young men on 16 years because army not protect people armed conflicts emerge in country.

at outbreak of revolutionary movement of 1910, temple abandoned, interior used stables of military , military control, looting , temple deteriorated. in 1917 zapatista army recovered control of town of tequixquiac, otilio montaño, , inhabitants requested opening of temple, not possible during government of plutarco elias calles. in 1926, @ request of inhabitants, mexico state government , bishopric asked reopen temple of santiago apóstol parish; en 1927 opened temple big party , celebrations in town.


in 1990, celebrated 400 years ago of building santiago apóstol parish, there party full of folklore, catholic religious services baptisms, weddings, first communions , confirmations. government of state of mexico , municipal government supported other cultural events such classical music, folk dance, theater, marches, processions, sporting events , traditional cuisine leave testimony of important event; , invited people other mexican states , other countries spain, italy , united states.
