as build-up in normandy beachhead grew during june , july 1944, 80th aa bde tasked protecting juno , sword beaches, small port of ouistreham, , river orne , caen canal bridges. 114th laa rgt established rhq @ courseulles, part of regiment astride orne , canal. on 16 june ordered send troop douvres catch aircraft attempting drop supplies german troops holding out in strongpoint there (the battle of douvres radar station), , on 20 june ordered deploy roving troop protect important ammunition ship unloading @ ouistreham. when of parties of 6/20 laa bty washed off gooseberries during great storm of june, distributed 114th laa rgt ease manning problems.
although luftwaffe attacks on beachhead sporadic, concentrated on bridges, while sword beach , whole eastern sector remained under mortar , artillery fire. @ end of july, 114th laa rgt reported being attacked secret weapon , destroyed 372 bty s hq, killing sentry. upon investigation appeared being shelled large calibre gun long range. on 13 august, 373 bty returned regiment 76th aa bde.
at end of august, 21st army group broke out normandy beachhead , began pursue defeated german troops across northern france. reverting mobile role, , supported 30 three-tonner trucks of 1587 platoon, royal army service corps (rasc), 114th laa rgt came under command of newly arrived 74th aa bde supporting first canadian army. regiment amongst first troops enter rouen behind assaulting canadian infantry on 30 august. here deployed protect crossings of river seine. withdrawn on 10 september , moved dieppe, arriving on 12 september when reverted 80 aa bde command. there no air raids, regiment captured number of german soldiers, joined large numbers in prisoner-of-war (pow) camp. regiment required act infantry cordon in event of break-out attempt pow camp. lieutenant-colonel hoare later awarded french croix de guerre palm work on d-day , during normandy campaign.
