the european qualification games started in august 2008 after euro 2008. 8 groups of 6 teams , 1 group of 5 contested european qualifying competition. result, 9 group-winners qualified directly, while best 8 of 9 second-placed teams contested home , away play-off matches remaining 4 places. in determining best 8 second-placed teams, results against teams finishing last in six-team groups not counted consistency between five- , six-team groups.


the first round completed on 14 october 2009. draw second round held in zurich on 19 october, matches played on 14 , 18 november.
